I used to talk with a fellow NIMH fan named Ken Singshow who was from Japan. He told that when a "woman of importance" marries, her in laws would refer to her brothers and sisters as our equivanent for "big brother/sister." It's one of those wonky respect things that came up when I was helping him with his Secret of NIMH fanfic. Ah...back in the day...1996?
