JS stuff

Just an old scene from Suikoden: Journeymen's Survival that I scribbled in my notebook back during ... oh, winter quarter? Finally taking the time to type it up for reference, so I'm also putting it here.

As far as he could see, flames.

They reigned over all other sights, invading his other senses and rendering helpless to their lulling traits.

Death smelled of smoke and brimstone, and he welcomed the smell.

Death.

Death.

He wanted to die. Part of him was still of the ability – desire. What kind of life was filled with fire and death?

The image of a shadow with demonic eyes fleetingly crossed his consciousness, mocking him with a ruthless, bloodthirsty smile.

He wanted to kill, that man. That was a smile of murder, chaos, and confidence.

It was familiar.

* * * * *

Geddoe frowned at the figure that blocked his escape route. True Lightning thrummed on his hand in warning, telling him of the presence of a True Rune on the masked figure.

“Get out of the way,” he intoned, glancing over his shoulder to make sure his pursuers had not caught up.

The figure did not reply or move.

I’m running out of time.

Drawing his sword, Geddoe advanced.

* * * * *

“We have movement, sir.”

Abel tapped his chin, then nodded. “I can see that, Az,” he muttered. “Let’s crack this guy. Initiate Operation Alpha, then Delta in five.”

“Copy that.” Azura flicked a switch, then tapped encrypted code to enter the helmet worn by Project Cain. “Initiating in five, four, three, two…”

* * * * *

Geddoe gritted his teeth as a stream of energy struck him, backing away from the figure in his way. Black energy exuded from his body, flowing off the figure like oil. True Lightning pulsed in alarm, recognizing the Rune and alerting its bearer.

“The Black Sword Rune,” the one-eyed Rune bearer murmured aloud. “You must be the creation of Premier, then.” He willed the True Rune on his hand to life. “I’ll free you from your miserable existence.”

* * * * *

“‘Miserable existence?’” Abel repeated wryly.

“Maybe he’s one of those morbid types,” quipped Seth, not watching the projected visual; he was busy monitoring Cain’s life signs and searching an old runic database.

“As opposed to insane?” Azura sighed, having already developed countermeasures. “Orders?”

“Epsilon in three. Hold Operation Gamma ready.”

“Roger. Establishing connection with Shield Rune Triad in three, two…”

* * * * *

The blades came out of nowhere, spinning without so much as a move from their “wielder.” Geddoe deflected the first with a grunt, catching sight of the incoming second in time to jump away. The masked individual followed through with a wider shockwave, forcing the dark-haired man back further.

* * * * *

“You got anything on True Lightning for me yet, Seth?” called Abel, taking a moment away from concentrating on Cain’s movements.

“Give me another minute,” Seth responded, his attention still on the database. “These files are old, after all.”

“You’ve got half of one,” the commander snapped. They were on a time limit with the Rune’s power. If they had to use an enhancement drug to take down this True Rune bearer, he had to know now.

There was a brief silence. “Heart rate is increasing dramatically,” reported Azura, having pulled up the life signs monitor to let Seth concentrate.

“All right, I’ve got it. Looks like Lightning’s bearer is fully half a millennia old. Professional suggestion is to use level four protocol.”

“Level four it is, then.” The only time level five protocol had been used was against simulators based on battle data of that damnable Nash from Desero. “Gamma on my mark, Az,” Abel ordered, feeling confident as he controlled Cain into advancing. “We’ve got ‘im.”

Everybody wave byebye to Geddoe, now. Bye bye~ *waves*

I'm curious how some encounters with Sasa must've gone now, since I know he's one of the few who never gets caught. x)

Hmm... that must be that RPG that takes place in some sort of post-apocalytic future, right? I think I saw that once.

If there is/was one like that, I sure haven't heard of it!
