Hum dee dum...
Waiting for my parents to come up now. Final went well; I was out about 20 minutes before the testing time was over. I'm a little uncomfortable about being so general with the copyright section, but I'm hoping to make up for it with the lists in the essay.
Decided to go back through my Silverberg drabble collection to begin reasoning out why things happen as they do.
The Eightfold and Conqueror Runes
I reasoned that the Conqueror Rune (also known as Black Rune) was a lower house rune of the Eightfold/Eight-Devil True Rune mainly because of Yuber's presence. In Suikoden I, Milich and Kasim, and even Ted, have Conqueror Runes that manipulate them and, if I remember correctly, allow them to summon monsters. We already know that the Pale Gate Rune is a lower house rune of the Gate Rune, so I was skeptical to place such a different rune like the Conqueror Rune with the Pale Gate. In Suikoden II and III, we see that Yuber is capable of summoning monsters and control them in much the same way the Conqueror Rune does, so that was my pretty obvious reason for the connection.
As for Albert, Luc, and Sarah all have Conqueror Runes for the duration of Suikoden III... Well. This is speculation based on actual in-game stuff. The Eightfold Rune is embedded on Yuber's left hand. Luc and Sarah both don't wear runes on their left hand. And we see Albert, Sarah, and I believe Luc all summon monsters during the game. (Yes, even Albert. He summons a beastmaster to teleport away in the Ceremonial Site.) Now, you could make the argument that Sarah can summon monsters by herself, but Albert? Magic researcher and instructor he may be (Tutor skill level C), but random monster summoner? Nope. Not without demonic help.
George Silverberg not in Scarlet Moon during the Gate Rune Wars
Well, to be fair, George Silverberg probably didn't exist at all during Suikoden I, but I decided to give a reason as to why he wouldn't have been involved in the war. The only way that he would not get involved in the war with his father and cousins already entangled in it would be for him to have not been in the country at all.
You could also make the argument that George was a terrible enough strategist (or not a strategist at all) that no one would want to recruit him, but I don't think Leon would approve. If Leon took the time to shape Mathiu into a strategist, why would he shrug off his own son?
Caesar as the next patriarch
Well, in the storyline, Albert's dead by the time Leon passes the title, but I think Caesar would remain the patriarch even if Albert was alive, provided Albert remains the way he is. Why? Caesar is quite obviously more morally-driven than Albert, and I don't believe Leon, for all of his paradigms and general aloofness, would want someone as selfish as Albert as the head of the family.
