Tales of Legendia AU - The First Night
Guess who just stayed up working on Walter's profile?
Clearly, I am absolutely insane for being up at this hour. I even have worktomorrow today. Whoops!
Oh well. My sleeping habits have been messed up since I got sick two weeks ago, anyway. I'll fall back into some semblance of normalcy now that I'm working again. Speaking of work, my old coworkers were really happy to see me when I came in today. I even got hugs from my senior manager and another teammate. Haha, even the director of the department stopped to talk to me. It was really cool. It didn't even feel like I'd been gone for a month.
Sucks that they're not looking to hire another technical editor. I think I'd really love to work there, after being there for a year before. Maybe next year? Hopefully.
Finished another Legendia AU drabble. Whoo hoo!
The First Night
August 9-12, 2008
“Hey, buster, you owe me orange gels. Lots of ‘em!”
Norma grumbled to herself as she approached the fallen figure, sighing in the semidarkness as she crouched down. “C’mon, c’mon, I don’t have time for this; the sun’s gonna be up and those guys are gonna start to stink.”
There was no response from the guy she had just saved except for his very raspy breathing. She poked and prodded him a few times with one hand, pouting when that didn’t help.
“…Well fine, be that way. I can drag you over the rocks and sand and over to the boat. Noooo problem.”
+ + + + +
Walter awoke to the taste of sand in his mouth.
“Are you awake yet? You’re heavy.”
He was … being dragged? He coughed a few times, groaning as his body complained when his feet were-- dropped? Everything hurt something awful.
And now someone was poking at his head.
“I know you’re awake. C’mon, you can nap on the boat. …Or maybe not; I dunno how you are with seasickness.” The poking was getting more pronounced and determined. “I didn’t just save you so I could ditch you on the beach, buster.”
Walter coughed again, swatting at the hand that was inadvertently making his headache worse. That seemed to satisfy his odd rescuer, since the poking promptly stopped. He rested his hand back on the sand, wishing he could just fall asleep.
“Okay, let’s try something different. What’s your name, tough guy?”
Should he answer? It seemed like a fair enough trade; she had gotten rid of the soldiers pursuing him, so he would give her his name.
He must have taken a long time deciding what he would do, because the girl went right back to poking his head. This time, he lifted his head enough to glare.
“Well? I can just call you names until the sun comes up.”
“It’s Walter.”
There was only the briefest of silences before the girl spoke again. “Wally, huh? You could’ve said something sooner. The name’s Norma Beatty.”
Walter responded by dropping his head back to the ground, shutting his eyes tiredly.
“Hey!”
+ + + + +
“You didn’t tell me you were hurt.”
Did he really need to? He was obviously a runaway prisoner. The lack of decent clothing should have been a dead giveaway; the blond hair and blue eyes should have cemented the fact.
But now he was flat on his back, his head resting on Norma’s messenger bag. His unlikely rescuer had fished out some bread and given it to him, then bonked him on the head with her odd weapon when he ate too fast. There was little talking during all of this, which Walter was thankful for; his throat hurt from running so much, and he had spat out blood not too long after Norma had flipped him onto his back.
At least she seemed to know when he wouldn’t be able to answer questions.
“So, so. Are you really a Radiant?”
…Never mind.
“You look like what the stories always said they looked like. I mean, you’ve even got the funny blond hair.”
Walter tried to give her a glare. He really did. It must have looked incredibly stupid when he was sick and miserable. “Do you run … some sort of … freak show?”
“Of course not! I’m a treasure hunter!”
“You’re … an idiot.”
Norma promptly thwacked him with her bubble wand again, crossing her arms. “Geez, are all Radiants as mean as you?”
“Are all Orerines … so violent?”
There was actually a significant pause after his question, and for a moment Walter thought he had somehow won the argument. Unfortunately, the wonderment in the girl’s next question proved him wrong. “What did you say?”
Walter managed a sour look. He really didn’t want to be talking this much. “Violent … Orerines.”
“That’s what I thought you said.” Even in the semidarkness, there was no mistaking the huge grin that appeared on Norma’s face. “So, so, you know Relares, Wally? I’ve been trying to learn it. I knew that Radiant Ones used to know the language way back when there was a kingdom on the Legacy, but I didn’t know about now. Do you, Wally? Do you?”
He could feel a headache coming on. A big one named Norma Beatty. She was looming over him with those excited eyes, just waiting for him to answer.
“Going … to sleep.”
“What? Hey, hey! I asked you a question, Wally. At least give me an answer!”
“Sleeping. Now.”
He could almost hear her pout as he shut his eyes. Damn it, this was going to be a long night.
And welcome to my LJ, ToDR peeps. ♥ I rarely make f-locked posts, so ... this is all a formality. But great to have you here!

Also, you went hogwild on his profile, I think I should someday do that with Maurits, but today is not the day!
no subject
Well, to be fair, that big block of background info was already written up for the RP he's from. I'd love to read your thoughts on Maurits; if I remember, you had some awesome ideas about Maurits especially being affected by Nerifes' "moods."
no subject
I had some ideas, but I still have to more or less have to tweak the things still. :( Get what I'm really thinking down.
And maybe play him consistently instead of having him randomly wandering off.no subject
Let's go with the consistency thing. :| Maurits has been hiding in Musette's house for so long it's starting to look suspicious.
no subject
Yes, I should. :( ... And hey, what do you mean by suspicious?
no subject
Suspicious. What's an
oldman like Maurits doing hanging around Musette's house? He doesn't need to be taken care of. What kind of properoldman hangs around a grown woman's house for no reason at all? "Guest," indeed. :|no subject
...Well if you go with Sapph's theory ...

Wally's wiki looks nice~ Except you forgot rape in the list of disturbing things Martelim's done.

...I wanted to spare the poor guy's ego. Just a little. >_>

...and wtf happened to the ToDR Wiki? I'm sure it looked completely different when I checked it a couple of days ago. I know I've been sleepy and not paying too close of attention to stuff, but I'm amazed I missed this. 0_o;;;

There was a group effort (spearheaded by Kyo, I think) to move the wiki over to Wikia instead of PBwiki. PBwiki uses an odd HTML/wiki-code hybrid; Wikia uses the traditional wiki-code that you can find on wikipedia, wikispaces, and other places. There's gonna be articles for both muns and characters. ^^
no subject
Ahh, I see. ...Crap this means that my free time is going to get sucked away. A PLACE WHERE I'M SUPPOSED TO BABBLE ABOUT CHARACTERS, OH GOSH I'LL NEVER STOP.
