I swear I'll go back to sleep soon
So I decided to just go ahead and by that SmartDraw program. It seemed to have a lot of applications for what it is. And if it isn't too useful, it was only $200, right?
...Yeah. I'll be missing that $200.
I've been thinking about this for a long, long while, but I've been wanting to write more Suikoden stuff. I have another epic idea about the original Suikoden world and how it ties into the Suikoden Tierkreis mechanics, but ... bah. I haven't finished a story since The Insane.
Maybe I should actually focus on writing something that's already partly written. Like EHW or Tabularasa. EHW was heading into darker territory with Pesmerga in the picture and I ran into a mental block trying to figure out Caesar and Apple's dialogue with an amnesiac Albert.
Since I would have to scrap the current story if I ever decided to go back to the idea, here's part of a chapter that never got finished. I like to think my writing's gotten better since I gave up on this fic.

“Tabularasa ~ The Pieces of You”
Chapter 7: The World Freezes
His strides were more confident as he led the way through the forest, brows knitted together in concentration. He was wary not to touch the hilts at his belt, knowing all too well what kind of things could happen just simply holding the cursed swords. The demon’s words rang through his mind as he led his companions through Kuput Forest, their destination still hours away.
“Your man sits just beyond the forest at a table with former enemies, playing you all for fools.”
Though he should not have been surprised by Albert Silverberg’s deviousness, Nash Latkje found himself wounded on a more personal level. He had interacted with Silverberg during the Second Fire Bringer War in a way that most other people were not aware; despite Albert’s pact with Luc, the young man had traded information with Nash to be relayed to his various connections. At the time, Nash had been sure that he had been able to read the younger man’s motivations well enough to judge if he was an actual threat or not.
Never in his life would he have thought a Silverberg would invoke a True Rune, let alone Albert.
The True Runes were hardly a new topic for him; from the Beast Rune to the five elementals runes, he was quite familiar with what the True Runes were capable of and what they did to their bearers. Knowing that some True Runes, like the Beast Rune, could easily consume their bearers, he had been more than a little skeptical when Sasarai had told him Albert was their new suspect.
If Silverberg had become the bearer of a True Rune, he feared for anyone and everyone that encountered him.
“We’re almost there,” he called back to his traveling companions, barely glancing back to see if they were keeping up. Considering they had heard Yuber’s words as well, they could only be as determined as him to reach Chisha.
He could only hope that Sasarai was wrong, and that they were on a wild goose chase.
* * * * *
He found himself unable to back away fast enough. There was no way to put significant space between him and the strange, grinning man, and he froze when a sharp blade seemed to materialize against his neck.
“W-- what…?”
“Surprised, are you?” Yuber smirked as he peered down at the shorter man, his hand incredibly steady and keeping the sword against Albert’s throat aloft. “I thought I would come in advance and make sure you were still here. Tricky, Silverberg, making those wolves lure me away from you.”
Albert looked incredulously at this stranger, barely able to register what he was saying. “Wolves?”
The grin that dominated Yuber’s features slipped, and he studied the wary-eyed Albert for a moment. Again, Albert found himself unable to move away, and he shuddered as he stared at those demonic eyes that bored down upon him. “You have no idea who I am, do you, Silverberg?”
Albert had barely shaken his head before Yuber was snickering softly, and he could only clench his fists in annoyance at this turn of events. Whoever this strange man was, he knew him. Perhaps not as well as Caesar and Miss Apple, but there was apparently enough familiarity that he could be amused by his amnesia.
He fleetingly wondered if he hated this man.
Demon.
Framed in darkness in the form of armor, his hair a golden banner against the marble. A look of contempt, aimed at him.
“Can’t escape, can you? You’re just a tool to these Blights, these maggots. How long are you trapped in this wretched place?”
Until the family of Blight abdicates, I am theirs. It is a loathsome existence.
“I’m sure.” There was no sympathy in that smile. “That’s really too bad. I’m sure the chaos and bloodshed you would cause would be … splendid.”
“Yuber, we have an audience. Come.”
Yuber gave the unseen speaker a disdainful look. “Of course.”
Albert straightened as the flashback supplied him with a name to refer the man -- demon -- by. “Yuber.”
A blonde brow shot up. “How unexpected. You still recall something after all.”
“Your behavior is sickening,” Albert said, unable to refrain himself. “Do you have some reason to taunt me like this?”
“You are a funny, funny mortal,” drawled Yuber, easing his sword away from Albert’s throat and sliding it into his sleeve. “But enough with this idle chitchat; I didn’t come here to waste my time.” His eyes roved over Albert, as if sizing him up. “It’s on your right hand. You reek of magic and chaos … though now I’m convinced it’s not all because of the rune.”
Rune?
He was confused, and somehow he knew this was the least of his problems. Glancing over his shoulder and back at the house he had exited, Albert wondered if his brother would come out after him.
He hoped so. This was too much for his brain right now.
“Now… How to say this?” Yuber wondered aloud, tilting his hat over his eyes. “You will have company very soon, Silverberg. Hostile company, from the way those Harmonians looked. Perhaps they mean to kill you, or perhaps simply maim you.”
Albert felt sick looking at the wicked smirk on Yuber’s face, but he was more alarmed by his words. Harmonians? Kill me?
No. Not here!
His eyes widened at the clear, outraged voice that rang through his head. It was oddly familiar, and yet he felt as if he were hearing it for the first time. A cold chill ran down his spine as he backed away from Yuber again. The world had just turned upside-down on him…
“What the--? You!”
Albert started and immediately looked over his shoulder towards the voice, seeing Caesar in the doorway and staring at the two of them. Yuber frowned at this interruption, scrutinizing the other redhead in the doorway as he murmured. “I’ll be waiting for the inferno, Silverberg. Make me proud.” Not waiting for a response, Yuber stepped back and disappeared in a ring of lights.
“Albert, what was he doing here?” demanded Caesar, running out and towards his brother. A myriad of emotions played across his face, ranging from anger to betrayal. “Do you have any idea who that was?!”
The older Silverberg was taken aback by this reaction, and he shook his head as he answered. “I know his name is Yuber,” he admitted, trying to making calming gestures to ease Caesar’s enraged flailing. “I… He was familiar, Caesar.”
This seemed to upset Caesar even more, though the feeling of betrayal died in his eyes. “He’s a demon, Albert. And not just any demon -- quite possibly the worst demon to walk this earth.”
Caesar pulled his older brother back towards the house, shutting the door once they were safely inside. Albert attempted to get in a word before the younger boy could get another word in. “He said someone was coming to kill me.”
“He’s a-- what?” A fair bit of color drained from Caesar’s flushed face. He repeated his exclamation as a hiss: “What?”
“He said … that I would have hostile company. Harmonians.” Albert looked apprehensively at his brother. “Harmonia keeps coming up… What is it? Who are they?”
“They were your former employers, from the way I understand it.”
The brothers shifted their gaze to Apple, who had stepped up from the underground streets and was now frowning at them. “What is going on here exactly?”
While Albert relayed his strange conversation with Yuber to Apple, Caesar began pacing around the circular house. “This is fantastic… Harmonians coming here? It’ll be war all over again!” He barely restrained himself from kicking the door, continuing his stressed muttering and pacing until he realized Apple and Albert were staring at him.
Apple had her hands on her hips. “Caesar, now is hardly the time to be petulant,” she chided, giving her pupil a disapproving look. She looked at Albert. “Did Yuber say who is coming? It can’t possibly be an army…”
“That’s right,” Caesar piped up, scratching his head in irritation. “If it was an army, Alma Kinan shamans would have already noticed… Heck, the majority of the Grasslands would have already known.” He crossed his arms and looked around, as if expecting someone to appear and listen to their conversation. “What to do, what to do…”
Off to bed now.
Edit: Why is it that I'm hearing Sasarai referred to as a Bishop General in RP nowadays? Was something retconned? Because I'm pretty sure they consistently called him a Bishop (or sometimes Priest in Suikoden II's garbled translations). Priests and High Priest Hikusaak in Japanese, and Bishops and Chief Bishop Hikusaak in English.
Oh wait. I'm not taking the manga into account, am I? It just seems redundant, considering what a Bishop is in Harmonia -- a political official and general. It'd be like calling Albert a strategist-tactician.
...Yeah. I'll be missing that $200.

This, of course, reminds me that I haven't reviewed the manga (and youtube videos) for a while. Good excuse to do it now.

Kyaa kyaa write moar and so on. ♥

I'll even stick with Star Dragon Sword until they decide to retranslate the name. And the fluke times where "Silverberg" was spelled "Silverburg"? Those don't exist.
Sigh, Suikoden. By the time you were consistently translating terms, you were jumping around in the timeline or leaving it entirely.

But yeah, I stick to bishop too, since that seems to have been the intent. As a tangent, I do not understand why so many people assume that "Bishop" means the Harmonian religion resembles Catholicism. :|a Also Silverburg always makes me think of the family owning a prestigious 1950's hamburger joint instead of being strategists. 8D YOU LOVE MY BRAIN DON'T YOU ANA
