The first is ... well, I talked about a Suikoden IV idea awhile ago. *shrugs* Just something about it.

Suikoden IV untitled fic stuff

“I’m sure you had your reasons. There is more to the world than Kooluk.”

Father, I understand what you mean, but I love Kooluk. Nothing will change that.

His resolve had been shaken by news of the empire’s collapse; he had nearly packed up and gone to the capital to find out for himself what had happened, but his father had been quick to keep him from leaving.

Apparently he had been suspicious of what was going on for quite awhile and had kept in contact with former subordinates.

That was his father for you. Assertive since the day he was born.

The factions had ended the empire, his father’s informants told them. It had been a good thing they had not been involved; apparently sorcery had been at work near the end, and many soldiers on both sides died as horrendously-mutated creatures. The immediate royal family, from the Emperor Julius to the Crown Prince Martin to his wife the Lady Miranda, had been victims of a Patriarchal Faction radical’s crazy scheme to control the empire. Apparently following the wishes of her deceased father and grandfather, the young Crown Princess had not taken the throne and instead allowed Kooluk to fall apart.

However, the dissolving of the empire had come at a cost. There were still imperial loyalists urging the royal family to seek control, since the Crown Princess Corselia refused to lift a hand in politics and instead led a privately-funded humanitarian effort that offered relief. While the move was greatly appreciated by the people and led to popularity of the young princess, faction leaders criticized the work because of its dependency on a troupe that had previously worked for the Scarlet Moon Empire and had ties with the Island Nations. It was even rumored that the leader of the Island Nations himself, Lino En Kuldes, had traveled with the troupe at one point.

Even more worrying was the fact that it had been less than a year since the fall of the Kooluk Empire … and Princess Corselia’s funds were running out.

Random scene from chapter 2

“Mother, how are you today?”

“I’m fine, my dear. How is school?”

“It’s … okay.”

Sarah Bach looked at her clasped hands solemnly, wondering if she should expand on her answer. Truth be told, her first year of college was not going very well. She was fairly studious and got good grades back in high school, but her well-roundedness in her subjects led to having trouble pinpointing a major. A counsoler had tried to comfort her by explaining that it was perfectly normal, but she still felt isolated from old friends that had been quick to proclaim their majors upon entering schools.

For the most part, she was in self-imposed isolation. And the only way to get out of it, as far as she was concerned, was to decide on her major.

Of course, she did not want to worry her mother about it.

“Are you sure?”

It did not help that her mother was extremely intuitive. Psychic, almost.

“I’m sure, Mother. Did Mio--?”

Leknaat waved slightly, dismissively. “I sent her home early. I’m perfectly fine.”

She raised a brow skeptically. “How early is ‘early?’”

Her mother had the grace to look embarrassed. “Eleven AM.”

Sarah was very rarely angry. She just never felt rage. That did not stop her from chiding her mother, though. Mio was her mother’s personal aid to help her around the house and outdoors due to her mother being blind. “This is the third time this week, Mother. Mio is supposed to stay here until I get back from school. What if you had fallen down the stairs or something? Or-- or dropped a plate and cut yourself?”

Leknaat smiled and laughed at her daughter’s examples. “I’m quite careful, Sarah. That wouldn’t happen.”

For a moment, the young woman flushed and looked away; she knew her mother was careful. In fact, her mother was so graceful despite her blindness that it seemed as if she had never been in that car accident.

One would almost think she had a third eye.

But Sarah did not really believe in that kind of stuff.
